Quick answer: Google Business Home is a new closed beta from Google that brings your Google Business Profile, Merchant Center, YouTube and Google Ads accounts together in one place. Google calls it “a growth partner built with Gemini models.” It is invite-only for now, limited to select business categories in the US and the UK, and open only to verified profiles with fewer than 10 locations. Your Business Profile still does the ranking work, so the best move today is to make sure that profile is verified, accurate and complete.
On October 22, 2026, Search Engine Roundtable reported that Google has been slowly rolling out Business Home to some businesses over the past couple of months, and Google has published a help page explaining how it works. Because the beta covers the US and the UK, it is relevant to businesses in both of the markets we serve from Denver and London. Here is what we know, based only on what Google and industry reporters have published so far.
What is Google Business Home?
Google describes Business Home as a space that “brings together your Business Profile, Merchant Center, YouTube, and Ads accounts all in one place.” According to Google’s help page, it connects your business tools so you can engage customers on Google and beyond.
That is a change of direction. As Search Engine Roundtable’s Barry Schwartz points out, Google previously dropped its standalone management portal and moved listing management directly into Search. Business Home brings back a central dashboard, this time built around AI and covering more than just your map listing.
What can you do in Google Business Home?
Google’s help page lists four current features:
- Content creation: AI-generated content and photo tools, while you keep full creative control.
- Location management: update hours, respond to reviews and more from one place.
- Growth guidance: a combined view of your business that turns data into prioritized actions.
- Customer messaging: AI-powered messaging through RCS for Business to answer customer questions.
Screenshots shared by Search Engine Roundtable also show sections for a Creative Lab, Posts, Reviews, Performance and analytics, Locations, Settings, a Brand Kit and connected Tools. Google says it plans to add cross-service insights and suggested next steps over time. Its own example is spotting a sudden jump in demand and helping you publish seasonal offers on social media.
Who is eligible for Google Business Home?
Eligibility is strict. Based on Google’s help page, here is how the requirements compare with a standard Google Business Profile:
| Requirement | Google Business Home (beta) | Standard Google Business Profile |
|---|---|---|
| Access | Invitation email only (closed beta) | Open to eligible businesses |
| Countries | US and UK only | Available in many countries |
| Business categories | Select categories only | Most business types |
| Verification | Verified profile required | Verification needed to manage and publish |
| Number of locations | Fewer than 10 locations for the same business | Single and multi-location businesses |
| Business types per account | One type of business only | One account can manage several businesses |
| Linked accounts | Max one YouTube channel, one Google Ads account and one Merchant Center account | Not applicable |
| AI features | Built with Gemini models: content tools, growth guidance, AI messaging | Varies; some AI features are in testing |
Google also says you must comply with all applicable Google policies, including the policies for connected tools. Accounts that run distinct businesses, such as a restaurant and a retail shop, are not supported.
How do you get access to Business Home?
You cannot sign up directly at the moment. Google says eligible businesses receive an invitation email, and you select “View your business home” in that email to get started. Once inside, you can link or unlink tools from Settings at the bottom of the side panel, as long as you have the right permissions on each tool. For a local store, that means owner or manager access to its Business Profile.
If one Google Account manages several businesses, Google shows a selection screen at sign-in and lets you switch businesses from a dropdown at the top right. Brand assets, AI writing styles and connected feeds stay separate for each business, which matters for agencies and owners with more than one brand.
How does AI-powered messaging fit in?
Messaging is the feature most likely to affect customers directly. On October 29, 2026, Search Engine Roundtable reported that Google is expanding its AI-powered messaging pilot for Business Profiles. It lets customers message a business from Search and Maps using their phone’s own texting app, and an AI agent answers routine questions “instantly and at no cost.” Questions the agent cannot answer are handed to the business, and the owner can take over a conversation at any time.
There are two catches. The AI agent only works for customers whose phones and networks support RCS; other texts go straight to the business phone, and standard text rates may apply. And the agent is only as accurate as your profile, so your hours, services and menu must be current. On October 28, 2026, Search Engine Roundtable also reported that some businesses setting up messaging are being asked for an EIN and a privacy policy URL, with an on-screen note that “a Google partner will review your details before you can receive messages,” which takes about three to four working days.
Does Google Business Home change local rankings?
Google has not said that using Business Home affects rankings in the map pack or local results. It is a management and content tool. What ranks is still your Business Profile and your website, which is why the work behind local SEO does not change. Business Home may make it easier to keep that information fresh, post more often and reply to reviews, but the underlying signals stay the same.
The bigger shift is that Google is linking your profile with your Ads, YouTube and Merchant Center accounts. If you already run Google Ads, Business Home is designed to show that data side by side with your profile activity. If you are weighing paid against organic for the first time, our guide to local SEO vs Google Ads and traditional ads explains the trade-offs.
What should you do now to be ready?
You do not need an invitation to prepare. Use this checklist so your profile is in good shape whether or not Business Home reaches you:
- Confirm your profile is verified. Business Home requires a verified profile. Google says verification methods are chosen automatically and can include phone or text, email, live video call, video recording or postcard. Reviews can take up to 5 business days.
- Check who has owner or manager access. You need the right permissions on each tool you connect. Make sure the business owner, not just a former employee or old agency, holds owner access.
- Clean up linked accounts. Business Home allows no more than one YouTube channel, one Google Ads account and one Merchant Center account. Close or separate duplicates you no longer use.
- Update hours, services and menus. AI messaging answers from your profile data, so out-of-date details lead to wrong answers.
- Have a privacy policy URL ready. Some businesses setting up messaging are being asked for one, plus an EIN in the US.
- Build a simple brand kit. Collect your logo, colors and approved photos so AI content tools produce on-brand posts.
- Reply to reviews regularly. Review responses are one of the tasks Business Home puts in one place. Get into the habit now.
- Watch your inbox. Access comes by invitation email, so check the address linked to your Business Profile and look for “View your business home.”
If Google sends you a suggested edit while you are tidying up, remember you have a limited window to respond. Our post on Google Business Profile suggested edits covers that change.
What this means for local businesses
For a dentist in Denver, a law firm in Cherry Creek or a trades business in London, Business Home points to where Google is heading: one AI-assisted dashboard for your listing, ads, video and messages. That can save time, but it also means more of your customer contact may run through Google’s AI. If your profile has wrong hours or a missing service, an AI agent may repeat that mistake to a customer before you ever see the message.
It also fits a wider pattern. Google is adding AI across Search and Maps, from AI Overviews to the new Ask Maps experience. Accurate, consistent business information is what these systems draw on, which is why we treat profile accuracy as part of AI search optimization, not just map rankings. Because this is a closed beta, features and eligibility may change, so do not reorganize your marketing around it yet. Get the basics right and you will be ready either way.
